Certified Sustainability Officer Training
Representatives from five local municipalities and businesses attended the Certified Sustainability Officer training offered at Cape Fear Community College in March 2011.
Attendees defined a Sustainability Policy for their companies and reviewed the basic steps for implementing an Environmental Management System as defined in the ISO 14001 and Executive Order 13514.

Sage Salon & Spa is now GOLD! It took less than two months for Sage Salon
& Spa to move
up to gold status with their green business certification.
They opened their doors as the only nationally certified salon on the
East Coast. Lauren Farraher, owner-operator, was determined to have a
salon that was authentically green. She didn't just buy some online certificate
to put in her window, she consulted with NC Green Consultants and designed
her operation to be as eco-friendly as possible. Along with the certification,
Sage Salon & Spa will receive guidance throughout the year on ways to
continue to improve their sustainability. Sage Salon & Spa was honored
in a ceremony to celebrate their certification on Earth Day, April
22nd. Mayor Cignotti of Wrightsville Beach presented the plaque honoring
their silver status. Nancy was on hand to answer any questions regarding

Courthouse
Coffee & Cyber Cafe
Courthouse Coffee & Cyber Cafe in Burgaw earned a silver green business certification on April 2, 2010. After installing
a low-flow toilet, cfl bulbs, and instituting recycling
and composting programs along with several other initiatives, they qualified
for their certification. They are the first coffee shop in the Southeast
that can legitimately call themselves green. Visit them or check out their

Realty
World Southeastern
Realty World Southeastern can claim their right as the first realtor
in the southeast to qualify for a green business certification
as of May 3, 2010. They quickly rose from silver to gold certification
by adding voc eating plants to their office as well as a few other minor

computers, and many other energy saving devices and practices in use.

Indigo Organically Infused Salon showed their commitment to their clients and the environment
